The BEST Iced Tea EVER

IMG_0105.JPG

Seriously y’all. This is the BEST Iced Tea you’ll ever taste.

My Grammy ALWAYS had iced tea in her fridge, it was a staple. Most of the time she would make ‘sun tea’- does anyone know what I’m talking about? She had this big glass carafe with suns painted on it (from the 1960s, of course) and she would fill it with water and tea bags and sit it on her window sill to brew in the sun. SUN TEA!

I am super picky about my iced tea now because nothing can compare to my Grammy’s. Seriously, I don’t order regular black iced tea at restaurants (nope, not even from Starbucks…). And it’s so much cheaper just to make it home - especially if it’s the BEST!

So let’s get to the tea: Why is this iced tea the best you ask? BECAUSE - it is light, refreshing, balanced, crisp - with floral notes and a burst of citrus. It tastes elegant and sophisticated but you can drink it all day. Everyone who I have ever made this for has agreed it is the best they have ever tasted (Husband and FIL included).

The floral/citrus notes come from the bergamot oil in the Earl Grey tea - but it is perfectly balanced for iced because the Earl Grey is only 1/3 of the tea used. The other 2/3 is English Breakfast Tea which is a full-bodied and robust black tea.

Which brings us to the recipe!

The BEST Iced Tea EVER:

  • 1 QT HOT WATER (JUST UNDER BOILING, 208 DEGREES F)

  • 4 BAGS ENGLISH BREAKFAST TEA

  • 2 BAGS EARL GREY TEA

  • 2 QTS COLD WATER

  • LEMON, FOR GARNISH

Steep all 6 tea bags (English Breakfast + Earl Grey) in 1QT of hot water for 4-5 minutes. The tea will very dark at this point. Now add it to a large pitcher or carafe with 2 QTS cold water. Serve with lemon wheels over ice and ENJOY!
