Shortcut Bolognese

IMG_1176.JPG

Sometimes (especially on a weeknight) you want pasta but don’t have the luxury of time to let a beautiful bolognese simmer all day. This recipe is perfect for this situation! Basically you doctor up a jar of really high quality pasta sauce, but I promise no one will know!

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

  • 1 lbs. 85/15 ground beef

  • 2 cloves minced garlic

  • 1 tablespoon italian seasoning

  • 1/2 tablespoon dried oregano

  • 2 jars high quality marinara (I use Rao’s)

  • 1/2 cup red wine

  • fresh basil

INSTRUCTIONS

In a stock pot that is fully heated on medium, add the olive oil, beef, garlic, italian seasoning, and oregano. Brown the beef and be careful that the garlic doesn’t burn.

Once the beef is fully browned, drain off the fat.

To the beef, add the red wine, cook for about 1-2 minutes, then add the jarred sauce.

Simmer the sauce for about 20 minutes (the alcohol from the wine will cook off so feel free to serve this to little ones! Or you can omit altogether - the flavor just won’t be as deep).

Finish the sauce with a chiffonade of fresh basil and serve with your favorite noodle and cheese.

Suggestions: Rigatoni and Burrata, tagliatelle and parmesan, spaghetti and mozzarella
